90th Anniversary Celebration on July 4th

The 90th Anniversary Celebration was a big success.  The day started off with walking tours of the camp with some going by golf cart. There was plenty to be viewed in the history corner with hundreds of pictures, old programs and memory books (click here to see the chapel memory book). Free swimming was available at Easley's with special Anniversary T-shirts and Sweatshirts for sale. The Agape Christian Worship Center Praise team was at the campfire to lift voices and hands in praise to God. Later in the afternoon there was singing and sharing in the chapel followed by a wonderful dinner in the Sawtooth Lodge.

The evening program introduced the returning managers as well as Dave Wilcox (the current manager) and staff.

Thanks to all that made this event possible including the Cathedral Pines Camp Board, Board of Trustees, Dave Wilcox and Staff, Dale Gray, Susan Mann, Agape Christian Worship Center Praise Team and the Churches that have supported Cathedral Pines for 90 years!

Update on the Bell

By Dale M. Gray

One of our camp’s favorite activities is ringing the camp bell. It signals the time for meals, classes, and church. We all appreciate its beautiful voice, but few know of how God placed it on its tower.

Original Story of the Bell

By Dale M. Gray

This is a portion of the text that was submitted with the Camp Cultural Resource report to the Forest Service last year. The article now looks to be a little inaccurate – the small bell was never part of the structure and now, as we are discovering, the bell tower does not contain the camp’s oldest artifact – though the Ustick Bell dates from the early years of the 20th Century. The original large bell was probably put in place during the amazing 1938 camp season. That was the year that saw the camp install a Queen Truss bridge across the river – replacing the original log stringer bridge -- and install a “sealed” water system drawing water from a spring behind the dinning hall.

Easley Hot Springs at 80

By Dale M. Gray

The fall of 2008 marks the completion of improvements to the deck around Easley Hot Springs. The program of repairs and improvements was required to fix the damage from the flood of 2006. However, this is not the first time the pool has been upgraded by the Idaho Baptist Convention. For the past 80 years, American Baptists have built and renewed this facility as part of their ministry to the youth and people of southern Idaho

History of Cathedral Pines: 75 Years of Camping

Camp History

By Lois & Earl Allen and Rev. Bob Smith (1994)

In the summer of 1919, the Rev. Will Shanks, who was then pastor of the First Baptist Church of Buhl had a dream of the establishment of a permanent site for a summer camp for the young people of the church. He decided to explore the area north of Ketchum for the establishment of such a site.
